Functional Movement Screen
Functional Movement Screen (FMS) at Plank Fitness
At Plank Fitness, every client is screened using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is used to fully evaluate each client’s movement pattern quality in order to develop the safest, most beneficial and tailored training program for each client. The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is administered by one of Plank Fitness’s certified Functional Movement Screen (FMS) trainers or physical therapist. It is a system of 7 basic movements that the trainer or therapist assess and grades using a simple grading system. The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a screen intended to assess individuals without recognized pathology. the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) does not diagnose problems, but identifies limitations or asymmetries in healthy individuals. If there is pain at any point during the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), then the client is referred to our on staff physical therapist as she is trained to assess and treat orthopedic issues.
Functional Movement Screen Overview
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) has 7 movement patterns that require a balance of mobility and stability. Many individuals can perform high level athletic activities but are unable to perform one of the 7 tests in Functional Movement Screen (FMS) due to an imbalance in either stability or mobility, or both. The Functional Movement Screen aids in identifying these imbalances or asymmetries in order to improve movement patterns and reinforce quality biomechanics, reducing risk of injury and improving overall efficiency.
